Prosthodontics is one of the dental specialties involved in replacing a missing part of a tooth, many teeth or all teeth in the mouth, thus, a prosthodontist is a dentist who specializes in the esthetic restoration and replacement of teeth. To achieve this goal the department is specialized in designing and fabricating crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays, complete and removable partial dentures and dental implants. The department is also competent in treating jaw joint problems ( mandibular joint), traumatic injuries to the mouth’s, structure, congenital or birth anomalies to teeth, snoring, sleep, disorders and oral cancer reconstruction with prostheses.
Some of the common treatment procedures carried out in this department include Fabrication of Complete Denture, Removable Partial denture, Crowns for tooth, Bridges, night Guards, Porcelain veneers, cleft palate obturator and placement of dental implants.
Loss of part of mouth or face either as a result of congenital defect, trauma or surgery are managed by maxillofacial prostheses.
The department has a fully equipped ceramic and acrylic laboratory manned by skilled dental technicians, who can fabricate all types of dental prostheses designed by the prosthodontists in the clinics.

The primary goal of Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of dental caries (decay) and includes techniques and procedures to restore the teeth to its proper form, function and esthetics. It also involves performing root canal treatment and associated surgical procedures to rid the tooth of its offending malady. The treatment provided includes various filling ( esthetic & non esthetic) Root Canal treatment surgical endodontics , bleaching & management of traumatized teeth.
The department has state of the art equipment which includes fully automated dental chair, Digital Radiography & Intraoral imaging. Apex Locators, Bleaching unit & Loupes. Thermoplastisized G.P.System, Rotary endodontic instruments.
The faculty aims at maintaining the highest of standards in education , patient care as well as research activities, The faculty trains the under graduate student in the subjects of Dental Materials, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics as part of their BDS Curriculum. DEPARTMENT OF ORAL PATHOLOGY & MICROBIOLOGY
The Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology is a specialized branch of dentistry. The various development defects, malformations, lesions and neoplasm seen in the Oral and maxillofacial region are diagnosed using various techniques in this department. Emphasis is also given to specialized diagnostic aids like Electron Microscopy, Immunohistochemistry, Enzyme histochemistry . Flow cytometry, Gene mapping . In situ hybridization . polymerase chain reaction , Serological studies Blood chemistry and Microbiological studies.
The department is also concerned with research of diseases in maxillofacial region. Because of the widespread use of tobacco and its products in this part of the country, the prevalence of oral pre cancer is high, So great emphasis is given for its prevention.
At the academic level, the department deals with teaching the undergraduate students basic science in dentistry which includes Oral Anatomy , Histology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics and tooth morphology .
At higher level, diseases which effects maxillofacial and oral region are taught giving emphasis to its histopathology .This department highlights the basis of forensic dentistry .
This branch is said to be a link between basic and clinical sciences. The department is equipped with histopathology lab, tooth morphology and histology lab and a clinical section for clinical examination and biopsy.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is defined as that part of dental practice which deals with diagnosis, surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects of human jaws, oral cavity and associated structures, involves removal of impacted tooth, removal of small tumors, cyst, apicoetomy , alveoloplasty etc. These surgeries are usually less extensive, and are usually performed as outpatient procedures. Major oral surgery involves management of faciomaxillary trauma, oral pathologic lesions ( such as cyst and tumors of jaw) dentofacial pre prosthetics surgeries, reconstruction of missing part of jaw with bone graft, and management of facial pain, tempero mandibular joint disorders and orthognathic surgeries.
The presence of a well equipped operation theatre and related surgical specialties in the attached medical college hospital help us in the management of even complex orofacial pathologies, trauma and developmental deformities of the face.

DEPARTMENT OF PERIODONTOLOGY
The term periodontium comes from two Greek word ‘Peri’ meaning around and ‘dont’ meaning tooth. Periodontium therefore means tissues investing and supporting the teeth. The clinical science that deals with Peridontium in health and disease is called Periodontology. The brach of dentistry concerned with prevention and treatment of periodontal disease is termed Periodontics or periodontia.
The department of Periodontology deals with examination , diagnosis and treatment of various forms of gingival and periodontal diseases. They can be treated by nonsurgical and surgical treatment modalities.
Non surgical management include scaling and root planning, local drug delivery , host modulation and systemic auto biotic therapy . Surgical management include various pocket elimination techniques and esthetic surgeries . Laser assisted periodontal therapy is also done by using diode lasers.
Surgical therapy by various chemotherapeutic and host modulating agents as an adjunct to the above treatment modalities..
Recent evidence has also shed light on the potential effect of periodontal disease on overall systemic health of the patient. Making periodontal therapy an important aspect of overall health of the patient.
DEPARTMENT OF ORTHODONTICS AND DENTOFACIAL ORTHOPEDICS
This branch of dentistry is concerned with the prevention and correction of dental and jaw related facial deformities. Dental esthetics plays a very important role in the development of one’s self image and esteem. Normal occlusion of teeth is important for the health of periodontium and the normal functioning of the stomatognathic system (i.e. chewing apparatus)
Preventive Orthodontics, Interceptive Orthodontics and Corrective Orthodontics are the three main tenets of Orthodontic specialty, The various treatment procedures undertaken in this branch of Dentistry can be grouped in to three categories- Orthodontics treatment. Growth modification treatment and Surgical Orthodontics.
Orthodontic Treatment refers to moving teeth through the alveolar bone by the application of appropriate mechanical forces. Problems like irregularities in the alignment of teeth, protruded teeth and abnormal interdigitation between upper and lower teeth are usually corrected by this treatment modality.
Jaw size discrepancies in children can be corrected to some extent by orthodontic Jaw Growth modification Treatment.
Correction of jaw size discrepancies in adult patients often requires surgical intervention in addition to orthodontics treatment. Surgical Orthodontics deals with such problems.
A correct diagnosis, a correct treatment plan and good patient co-operation are the three factors for success of orthodontic treatment. The clinicians must have a good knowledge about the Anatomy and Physiology of stomatognathic system (the chewing apparatus) and the biologic biologic response of tissues to the therapeutic applications of orthodontic forces.
DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRIC & PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY
Paediatric dentistry refers to the branch of dentistry that specializes in dental care for children and adolescents including those with special health care needs. Paediatric dentistry emphasizes the establishment of trust and confidence in children with their dentists in order to make every visit enjoyable. It aims to introduce and implement the principles of preventive dentistry from birth, parental guidance to various treatment modalities and instill a positive attitude and behavior in the child. Special emphasis is laid on the prevention of dental diseases in the form of diet counseling, fluoride therapy and the application of pit and fissure sealants.
Additionally , Paediatric dentists work towards the maintenance of primary teeth until they are naturally lost. Conventional restoration ,endodontic treatment and stainless steel crown are done to maintain the teeth in a healthy state.
The prevention and correction of deleterious oral habits, space management influencing tooth alignment using orthodontic appliance, management of traumatized teeth, prevention of sports injuries by mouth guards, appliances for cleft palate patients are some of the specialized treatment given. Oral Medicine Diagnosis and Radiology provide an essential link between dentistry and medicine which is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of oral mucosal diseases, Oral manifestation of systemic problems and those phases of dental practice that are essentially concerned with diagnosis and dental management of medically compromised patients. Oral and maxillofacial radiology is the specialty of dentistry and discipline of radiology concerned with the production and interpretation of images and data that are used for the diagnosis and management of diseases, disorders and conditions of oral and maxillofacial disorders.
The department of oral medicine Diagnosis and Radiology is situated in the ground floor of the dental college near the main entrance with a clinical section and a radiology section , The Department receives all patients, examines them, diagnose the disease with scientific methods and laboratory investigations.Medicines are prescribed as required and patients are referred to various specialties for treatment.

The dentists have the primary responsibility for the oral health care of the general public and thorough legislation, has total jurisdiction over the provision of this care.
The focus of a dental practitioner is the individual patient where as the emphasis of the dental public health practitioner is the overall community, the dental public health field has been expanding its scope and complexity with more emphasis being placed on the total oral health care delivery system and its impact on oral health status of the people.
